This course will take a close look at the role of advanced phonological awareness in making word recognition automatic. Participants will examine research showing the relationship between advanced phonological awareness and proficient reading, practice administering an advanced phonological awareness assessment and learn routines and strategies to boost students’ advanced phonological awareness skills through orthographic mapping. The result of orthographic mapping is instant word recognition, which improves all areas of reading performance.
