Introduction to Teaching Transparently
July 20 & 21, 2017, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Grant Wood AEA, 4401 Sixth St. S.W.,
Cedar Rapids, Iowa

This two-day learning experience introduces teachers and leaders to role and purpose of teacher leadership when it grows from classroom teachers. With the belief that teacher leadership flourishes when traditional hierarchies are flattened, these two days take participants through a series of experiences in which they construct an understanding about model teachers and teacher leadership using footholds like a beginner’s mindset, problem of practice, observing for learning and reflective discourse. Participants can come in teams or individually as we will look at specific teacher leadership roles as well as the whole teacher leadership system.

Deep Dive Into Transparent Talk
Sept. 27, 2017, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Grant Wood AEA, 4401 Sixth St. S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa

This one-day learning experience builds on the work of Days 1 and 2 (as well as intermittent Zoom sessions or Google Classroom). This day utilizes Voice Thread technology as a way to facilitate careful conversations about student learning. Teachers and leaders will also focus more carefully on a taxonomy of teacher leadership dispositions to help gauge and reflect on their work thus far. Collected models of ways teachers around the country are “opening up their classrooms” will be shared as a way to catalyze critical conversations about struggles and possibilities in individual schools and districts.

Show Your Work

Jan. 17, 2018, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Grant Wood AEA, 4401 Sixth St. S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa

This one-day learning experience will help teachers, leaders and teams think carefully about
the work they’ve done throughout the year.

This “show your work” day will help participants:
• Reflect on what they’ve done this year;
• Reveal what they’ve learned to others;
• Relate with their audience’s (school system) needs;
• Ready their team for next year.

Not only will every participant walk away with a tangible curation of their work, but they’ll also leave with a capstone experience that challenges them to apply the year’s learning into a meaningful artifact that can be used to help share their learning in their home districts.

Target Audience: Instructional Coaches, Model Teachers/Teacher Leaders, Administrators
Instructor: Sarah Brown Wessling
Administrators may chose to attend only Day 1 and Day 2.
